Keeping an eye on the competition

Article Abstract:

Competitive intelligence is becoming more important in the insurance industry. To compete in the international marketplace, American insurance companies must be able to obtain and use market intelligence. Detailed information on competitors can provide insight into new markets and new business methods. Managing corporate intelligence involves four steps: planning the project, collecting the information, analyzing the data and distributing the results.

Learning a lesson

Article Abstract:

Property/casualty insurers are adopting the tenets of managed care with some modicum of success, despite the fundamental differences that characterize the two industries. Workers' compensation insurers have especially been successful in their adaptation of managed care principles, establishing pre-injury loss control and formal return-to-work policies that have helped lower administrative costs and improve quality of insurance.
