Managed care: the dream and the reality

Article Abstract:

Managed care was supposed to reduce health care costs and improve the quality of medical care. However, businesses saw managed care as a means to escape the double-digit increases in health insurance plans. Managed care brought down costs and provided for big indemnity-style deductions and coinsurance provisions. However, industry analysts point to the failure of managed care. It did not bring down health care costs and there were reports that patients were denied care or were not given proper medical attention.
