Post-takeover Hong Kong will hold to its course

Article Abstract:

Evidence suggests that Hong Kong shall remain a competitive market even after the takeover by China. Long-term insurance coverages, annuities and disability insurance registered a 22% growth rate. Property/casualty insurance premiums, which have almost tripled in size since 1985, grew about 80% from the 1990-1995 period. However, its premiums fell by 8% in 1996. Insurer portfolios have increased since 1985 owing to the rapid growth of automobile and employees compensation/employers' liability insurance coverages.
