Redesigning the benefits department

Article Abstract:

Corporate benefits departments should be reengineered to complement the organizational mission and strategies. Reengineering can be implemented by identifying the organization's customers, determining the elements they value and delivering the desired services. In cases where total reengineering is not possible or is difficult to implement, the benefits department can instead focus on taking incremental measures such as redefining jobs and activities it will pursue.

Is broadbanding right for your organization?

Article Abstract:

The practice of collapsing multiple salary grades and ranges into a few wide levels, or broadbanding, can reinforce and support organizational structure and culture. It can give managers more flexibility in recognizing individual achievement and help move employees through the pay structure with more administrative efficiency. A management questionnaire to determine the appropriateness of broadbanding is presented. Two company case studies are briefly discussed.

Health care reviews

Article Abstract:

Interest in health care claim reviews is growing among employers with company-sponsored health care plans. Health care claim reviews involve testing of system edits, payment accuracy, coding errors, provisions for cost-containment and overall performance of the claims administrator. The results of a review are useful in identifying areas for improvement in claims administration and in developing a program to improve efficiency and accuracy.
