Managed prescription programs: integrating retail and mail order services

Article Abstract:

Managed prescription programs that combine both retail and mail order operations are the best solution to control costs for a company. Purchasing drugs via the mail, where prices are already down some 10% to 15%, and in some cases 30%, is a good answer when buying maintenance drugs. Also required for an effective cost containing drug purchasing program is a Drug Utilization Review, which will keep track of drugs bought both via the mail and via retail, watching for 'therapeutic overlaps, duplicate prescriptions and inappropriate drug use.'
