Survey shows actuaries taking on new roles
Article Abstract:
The life insurance industry faces several challenges amid changes in the marketplace. According to the 1997 Life Insurance Chief Actuary Survey conducted by Tillinghast-Towers Perrin, insurers are feeling the pressure of implementing marketing and distribution strategies for their products. Actuaries are leading the responsibility of meeting these challenges posed by increased competition, evolving sales practices and customer demands. They are getting more involved in the areas of investment, sales and marketing and information systems.

Whole life dividend survey
Article Abstract:
Whole life insurance dividend scales are expected to rise in 1995 because of increases in rates of fixed interest investments in insurer portfolios. Although all whole life insurance companies experienced reduced dividend scales in 1994, some were able to increase their dividend scales, especially in specialty lines in 1995. Tables that include life insurance dividend scale comparison covering a 20-year period are included.
