Denying insurance can be a form of abuse

Article Abstract:

Public policy demands that individuals should not be at risk of losing or being denied insurance as a result of past or present medical problems. Insurer consideration of abuse in underwriting, rating and claims determination, based on a misconception that abuse is a voluntary lifestyle choice is in itself a form of abuse. Victims of abuse must instead be guaranteed access to adequate and affordable insurance without regard to past or present abuse.
