Article Abstract:

Rain, snow and cold weather during winter 1991-1992 have affected the insurance industry in Israel. The costs of loss of yield, profits and exports resulting from agricultural damage may be as high as $500 million. Insured losses could be as high as $300 million. The government will partially compensate the uninsured for their losses. The future of the insurance industry is difficult to predict because of the uncertainty surrounding such factors as the political and economic systems, immigration and privatization.

Digging for gold in claims departments

Article Abstract:

One of the best sources of revenues that insurance companies have is that of claim recoverables. Insurers can use claim recoverables to offset the cost of losses, and claim recoveries often compare favorably to the benefits of streamlined operations and productivity. Sale of salvage, subrogation, fraud paybacks and liens returns are all valuable sources of recovery. Another major source can be states' second-injury and reopened case funds.

Economic factors in property/casualty insurance claims costs

Article Abstract:

Economic factors influence the costs of property and casualty insurers' claims. Claims costs for the property and casualty insurance industry between 1982 and 1991 were studied. Insurers are major purchasers of such products and services as physicians' services, legal services, hospital rooms and car repairs. The research indicates that the individual Consumer Price Indexes (CPIs) for these items were greater than the general CPI.
