American hegemony? Perceptions of the US abroad

Article Abstract:

Perceptions of the US aborad are contrasted and contradictory and there is an assumption that American power represents a fundamentally new force. However, economic, military and political data underpin a contention that the US is still the same in essence as towards the end of the Cold War. Perceptions should be based on accurate understandings of the facts, but they are by definition, subjective. They are the key to the successful conduct of foreign and security policy.

The day after: an assessment

Article Abstract:

Experts from Europe, Russia and the US present their views about the battle against terrorism and its effect on world order. A US perspective indicates that the terrorist attacks of Sep 11, 2001, showed that the world had changed while the means of managing it had not. For Russia, there is still great concern that the international anti-terrorist coalition could collapse.
