Arming China or arming India: future Russian dilemmas

Article Abstract:

Russia has continued to sell high-technology military hardware to both China and India, a relationship with the two countries which began when Russia was still part of the Soviet Union. China and India's acquisition of Russian weapons has helped save Russia's troubled defense industries. Selling to both countries which are intense rivals could present Russia with a dilemma in the future. It is concluded that geopolitical, economic and foreign policy factors will push Russia to favor India over China since it cannot arm both countries simultaneously.

Nuclear power in the post-Cold War era: the development of China's nuclear strategy

Article Abstract:

The Strategic Missile Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) is gradually changing itself from of a 'hiding force' to a 'fighting force' by gradually lessening its dependence on a strategy of minimum deterrence. While the other nuclear powers have downsized their nuclear arms programs, China has stepped up its nuclear arms capability partly because of the outdated conventional weaponry of the PLA. The PLA also considers nuclear weapons as relatively cheaper to develop compared to high-tech conventional weapons.
