Israel's revolution in security affairs

Article Abstract:

Israel developed a unique series of defense-policy principles as a small, newly created nation surrounded by enemies committed to its annihilation in 1948. These principles appeared to outsiders to have become symbolic of and, in some respects, as one with the Israeli national character. However, economic, social, technological and strategic forces are merging to pressure Israel to change an approach to national security which is rapidly becoming obsolete. Israel's national security strategies and their implications for future peace in the Middle East are evaluated.

Information technology and the terrorist threat

Article Abstract:

Information technology in Western society is highly vulnerable to attack from terrorist organizations, with key industries, such as energy supply and banking, increasingly using non-proprietary and less secure networking protocols. Some small terrorist attacks on information have occurred, although it is unclear how effective the attacks can be. It is also unclear if terrorists are interested in pursuing widespread attacks on information technology, but international deterrent measures must be taken as a precaution.

The technology revolution in air warfare

Article Abstract:

Air-power has changed the nature of warfare on account of its ability to fulfill tasks previously performed by other force elements due to the application of new concepts and operations. Although high-intensity warfare will still require other force components to be successful, new air capabilities will render military campaigns to be handled both differently and more quickly and efficiently. This will also make land-power more of a means of securing a win rather than achieving it.
