Nuclear first use revisited

Article Abstract:

There is an imminent need for the United States to adopt a nuclear policy to deter its adversaries from upgrading their nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. They should send out a clear signal that the use of nuclear weapons from their side would only be to counter another country's use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and not a first strike. The US has the potential to ward off conventional attacks with its powerful military forces alone. Hence the initiation of a WMD attack seems unnecessary and unwise.

What missile proliferation means to Europe

Article Abstract:

Official US statistics show that about 75,000 cruise missiles already exist worldwide and although Western non-proliferation efforts, particularly the Missile Technology Control Regime, have influenced missile programs, non-EU members such as North Korea continue to export missiles and missile technology. The most important ramification of this proliferation for Europe would be to restrain its military intervention beyond the territories of NATO and EU members.
