From summer range to home range?

Article Abstract:

Brown pelicans have visited the Salton Sea in southern California for many years, with experts assuming that their presence there was the result of passive dispersal of birds originating from the Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Brown pelicans used to be seen at the Salton Sea only in summer and autumn, but they are now found there throughout the year. The species has become an established resident of the Salton Sea, and nesting there was documented for the first time in summer 1996. Some brown pelicans were released on the California coast following treatment during a botulism outbreak in late summer and autumn 1996, and several have returned to the Salton Sea.
