There is not alternative to Dayton

Article Abstract:

Washington has tended to seek quick fixes to Bosnian issues, although its contribution to peace has been indispensable. The Dayton Agreement was central to US policy, but there have been constant revisions of policy since the agreement in 1995. There will continue to be a need for a military deterrent in the country for some time, but this should reflect the composition of the international political coalition behind the peace agreement.
