A closer look at feeling better: astronomical health care costs can be cut with Medical Savings Accounts

Article Abstract:

Healthy attorneys that are self-employed or with small firms should consider establishing a Medical Savings Account under legislation passed in 1996. Health insurance costs will be increasing as more people are brought into the system, and healthy people already pay too much for insurance. Medical Savings Accounts are paired with high-deductible medical insurance, and contributions to the savings account used to pay expenses below the deductible are tax-deferred. Taxpayers with high marginal rates will enjoy substantial tax benefits.

No place like home - for investing; buying a house can be a good move now as long as you know where and how to look

Article Abstract:

Home buying can be a good investment in the prosperous economy of the late 1990s, even if the buyer is not motivated by such factors as a desire to move up. Reasons why this might be a good investment include the tax exemption of most gains from the sale of a principal residence, making buying and selling for profit potentially very lucrative, and low mortgage interests making financing very affordable. Moreover, housing is a good value as home prices have not increased nearly as much as prices for other assets.

Bench marks: for a passing grade in court

Article Abstract:

Judges who have made the move from the practice of law to the bench have certain rules of thumb for lawyers interested in maintaining their credibility with the bench. They advise lawyers to try always to maintain their composure, to admit their weaknesses and not to focus on every minor issue just for the sake of argument. Lawyers should not forget to tailor computer-generated research to the specific case they are working on. Rules of thumb for appellate lawyers are also given.
