ADR education: the promise of our future

Article Abstract:

Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) education must increase as ADR practice does. Uniform standards should be set for educating mediators and arbitrators. Participants in ADR, such as lawyers who advocate for a client, must understand how ADR differs from litigation. The American Arbitration Association began a training program in 1995 for its staff that focuses on client expectations and teaches supervisors how to train and evaluate AAA mediators and arbitrators.
