Abraham Lincoln's First Amendment

Article Abstract:

During the US Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln faced much criticism and incitement to opposition against the war in the North. Lincoln responded by allowing some abridgement of speech rights, such as the arrest of Copperhead leader Clement L. Vallandigham. But, in the end, Lincoln believed that the actions he took were justifiable in constitutional terms.

Competition and the Noerr-Pennington Doctrine: when should political activity be barred under European Community competition law?

Article Abstract:

The US Noerr-Pennington Doctrine states that firms should be able to engage in political activity even if such activity hurts competition . The doctrine should apply in the European Union as well. It would aid in the harmonization of antitrust law and increase EU competitiveness, among other benefits.
