Amicus networking add-on

Article Abstract:

Gavel & Gown Software's Amicus Team software allows users to manage a networked Amicus Attorney database and is a valuable asset, although it has a few flaws. Installing Amicus Team and running the conversion program will update the existing version of Amicus Attorney, a program that allows users to store information on clients and cases. The best Amicus Team features include a print button button on the Phone Call Details screen that allows users to print directly from that screen, instead of the Files module. Another helpful feature allows users to change the default Weekends and Holidays settings when scheduling a repeating appointment or task. The new navigation functions are particularly helpful, since users may search lists by entering the first characters of the item they are looking for, instead of having to scroll through lists. On the downside, users cannot change one of a set of recurring appointments without changing them all. The software costs $99 plus $50 per user.

$hopper's guide to personal information managers

Article Abstract:

Gavel & Gown Software's $399 Amicus Attorney 1.5 is the only PIM specifically designed for the legal profession of 13 products reviewed. Amicus Attorney offers the most easily understood interface. The program uses an open legal files as its principal image, instead of the open calendar found in other PIMs. Each case or client receives its own file, which is divided into sections for documents, notes and similar information. Amicus lets users list all documents in the folder, and documents may be accessed with a single mouse click. The program lets users set up form letters, place and time telephone calls and launch other applications. Commence's $295 Commence 3.1 seems complicated, but users may employ it simply as a calendaring application, without tapping its more powerful abilities. Commence has especially strong project management and its memo- and letter-writing tools. Individual Software's $25 AnyTime 3.0 offers basic features with a pleasant interface.
