Christopher Commission talks about the verdict

Article Abstract:

Former members of the Christopher Commission, convened after the Rodney King beating to weigh charges of police brutality, voiced dismay at the acquittal of the four police officers. Richard Mosk observed that venue changes are supposed to benefit defendants. Former California Supreme Court justice John A. Arguelles stated that in his 20 years of trial court experience, jurors take policemen's side if there is any reason at all to do so.

A portion of the change of venue hearing transcripts in the police brutality case against officers Brisano, Koons, Powell and Wind, accused of beating Rodney King, are excerpted. Judge Stanley M. Weisberg is recorded denying the prosecutor Terry L. White's motion to continue the trial while the demographic suitability of the alternate counties are researched.
