Beckman, Hirsch, Ell & Lewis

Article Abstract:

The Burlington, IA, law firm of Beckman, Hirsch, Ell & Lewis runs a complex network that includes Windows 95, Windows for Workgroups, Network File Service (NFS) for Unix and Lotus Notes. Despite these different operating systems, though, the firm has never had a system conflict. The network is powered by two servers that includes a Unix-based NextStep system with a 20-in monitor and a 120MHz Pentium-based system that has 32MB of RAM and runs Windows 95. The firm believes that it can optimize its productivity if it pushes the envelope of technology. The company's use of Lotus Notes was difficult to configure and install, but it has proved useful and light on maintenance after it was up and running.
