Black and white and running all over: as an NFL 'zebra,' this Phoenix litigator referees by the book

Article Abstract:

Litigator Edward Hochuli of Phoenix works during the pro football season as a referee for the National Football League, where he comes constantly under intense scrutiny and occasional abuse. After working in lower levels of football he began officiating for the NFL in 1990, and became a full referee two years ago. Such work makes the football season exhausting, as he continues practicing law full-time, but the experience is also compelling. Some elements of it relate closely to litigation, as well.

The blues personified: audiences love the way this Houston lawyer performs his second career

Article Abstract:

Houston sole practitioner Rick Lee has an avid following for his blues music, performed on an electric guitar while dressed in suit and tie in homage to the '50s Chicago musicians he idolizes. Lee says he identifies with the blues because of the ostracism he has sometimes experienced as an Asian-American, which seems no handicap in his second career. In 1990 he began performing at open-mike nights in blues clubs as a break from his real estate, probate, and domestic relations practice.
