Article Abstract:

Approaches for evaluating foreign investment and acquisition activities are presented. A financial analysis measuring risk and return for companies in ten nations is provided. This analysis forms the basis for evaluating financial objectives in earnings and rate of return. A portfolio theory and selection criteria are incorporated. Two measures of risk and return are also incorporated. Results of the analysis indicate that international acquisition will provide a higher level of earnings than will be possible without international acquisition. Decision rules for calculating potential international acquisition benefits are summarized.

Retirement portfolios need focus; implementing a strategy will change the reactive nature of investing to a planned activity

Article Abstract:

Successful retirement investment requires investors to understand the key asset classes, to set investment goals based on retirement needs, to develop a portfolio strategy good for their whole lives and to determine its implementation. Lastly, results must be monitored against objectives. The four major asset classes are small and large company stocks, US government bonds and US treasury bills. Goals for a retirement portfolio should be based on income needs and income sources. Ways to create sufficient capital and tax deferral opportunities are discussed.

Penny-wise predicament: safety-minded investing might pay off now but be costly in the long haul

Article Abstract:

Most investors seeking to preserve their capital through cash instruments should worry more about the erosion of purchasing power and therefore invest in stocks and bonds. A turbulent market is intimidating, but retreating to cash often means lost opportunity as the market improves while money is locked into lower returns. The proper investment mix for the individual's or family's needs is the paramount source of good performance, with particular stocks, bonds, or instruments making fairly marginal differences.
