Claims of offshore safety improvements based on "misrepresentation" of data

Article Abstract:

A book says improvements in offshore oil industry safety measures are misleading. The authors claim the UK Offshore Operators Assn has distorted the accident data and that offshore operations should be considered one of the country's most dangerous industries. They also contend that post-1992 data is too inconclusive to substantiate the impact of improved safety procedures. The book, "Paying for the Piper," also traces the increase in the industry's fatal and serious accidents over a thirty year period.
