Confusion over consultation requirements

Article Abstract:

A UK employer survey shows many employers are confused about the consultation requirements mandated under the Collective Redundancies and Transfer of Undertakings Regulations 1995, despite their overall support for the law. The Regulations require consultation with appropriate representatives prior to employee layoffs. Many employers appear confused regarding their obligations and their ability to choose with whom to consult. Moreover, the European Commission has severely criticised these Regulations, which could lead to renewed adjudication in this area.

Consultation on new strike restrictions

Article Abstract:

The UK government is soliciting consultation on its proposed strike restriction rules. The government wants to remove legal immunities associated with excessive effects, strike vote ballot majorities, re-balloting, and industrial action notices. The Trades Union Congress vigorously opposes the proposals. Several other measures being considered are also discussed.
