Consumer reaction to measures of poor quality: evidence from the mutual fund industry

Article Abstract:

Mutual funds show that investors respond to indications of quality, thus confirming ideas that consumers do affect product quality. The ratings of funds by performance gives obvious information about product quality and investors direct their money to the funds that perform well. Analysis of the mutual fund market from 1965 to 1984 shows the trends of investment besides the varying product quality as revealed in return residuals.
