Making storage a Snap

Article Abstract:

Quantum Corp's Snap Server storage appliance comes in several versions, ranging from the 20GB Model 1000, priced at $499, to a 300GB device, costing $4,499. Snap Servers are easy to install, requiring only to be plugged in to a network port or hub. Snap Servers accommodate TCP/IP, IPX, NetBeui and AppleTalk. They are compatible with various networking platforms, including Windows NT, Novell NetWare, Macintosh and UNIX/Linux.

Two portable storage solutions are described: Maxtor's Personal Storage 5000DV; and Pocketec's Pockey-DataStor. The former offers more storage, but the latter is smaller, providing true portability.
