Convict fights kin who vie for his millions; convicted of conspiring to kill his ex-wife, prisoner seeks to keep his fortune for an appeal
Article Abstract:
William Engel is fighting from prison both to seek his own freedom and to protect a 1992 settlement from his daughter and stepdaughter, who want to collect on a $5.1 million judgment against him. Engel was convicted in 1986, after he spent his $5 million fortune on legal defense, of hiring a hit-man in 1984 to kill his ex-wife. In 1992 he settled a legal battle over his share of the company he ran for another $5 million. His bankruptcy petition to preserve those funds for further defense efforts remains in the courts.

Peeping toms lose out in court; hotel security an issue
Article Abstract:
The Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA) newly formed Inadequate Security Litigation Group discussed the increase in peephole litigation charging hotels with inadequate security precautions at the organization's 1992 convention. Access to hotel service hallways and to areas behind hotel rooms can result in the setup of peepholes including two way mirrors. The cause of action in peephole suits is infringement of the right to privacy.
