Dealing with U.S. extraterritorial sanctions and foreign countermeasures

Article Abstract:

Businesses must plan ahead if they want to reduce the risk of becoming financially liable for violating US extraterritorial sanctions regulations or countermeasures to sanctions enacted by other nations. Avoiding liability can be especially troublesome for subsidiaries of US corporations. US multinationals should consider reviewing their operations for potential exposure to sanctions, ensure that the parent company does not direct noncompliance by a foreign subsidy, and pursue US government authorization, if appropriate, of its activities.
