Does law mean never having to say you're sorry?

Article Abstract:

The use of apology as a tool to advance settlements, to help resolve disputes, and as a solution that considers the client's needs is discussed. A sense of when an apology might be salutary is vital for a good trial lawyer and could help diminish the adversarial ethics too often characterizing the legal profession.

Squeezing the public good: higher salaries mean more billable hours, which translates into less time available for pro bono; we need to reverse this trend to become again a committed and caring profession

Article Abstract:

The decline in pro bono hours resulting from law firms' emphasis on an unreasonble number of billable hours is discussed. The added work necessary to subsize higher salaries leads to a disproportionate amount of attrition, depression, stress and substance abuse in lawyers.
