Drug testing and the right to privacy: arguing the ethics of workplace drug testing

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the hypothesis that an employer violates the employee's right to privacy once personal information is used by the employer in ways that are not employment-related. It was argued that drug testing does not amount to a violation of an employee's privacy. In fact, it is a method of evaluating performance under the terms of contract. In addition, drug testing is neither intrusive nor harmful to the employee. It can be conducted with a high level of accuracy.

No one is always right, including the customer: comments on "The Customer is Not Always Right." (response to T. Sorrel, Journal of Business Ethics, vol 13)

Article Abstract:

A study on customer service is evaluated. The study claimed that companies often gave in too much to customer demands at the expense of their business. Customers are also said to assume the high moral ground even when their claims lead to business failures or profit loss. However, it is argued that the study failed to distinguish between the unwarranted demands of individual customers and those of organized consumer groups.
