Dueling software makers: company president claims badmouthing in suit against competitor, then lobs his own allegations

Article Abstract:

LegalTech Inc. is suing Vertek OIS Inc. for alleged slander of the LegalTech vocational software and yet is publicly making the same criticisms of the Vertek product as are named in the suit. The issue is whether Vertek has been telling customers that the LifeStep software package contains errors that could potentially harm a person's life by resulting in insurance denial due to inaccurately denying disability. Vertek denies having made any such statements to customers and is willing to test the two systems to determine which is the better product.

Playing against hype: computer giant claims allegations in pretrial press release are libelous, sues plaintiff and counsel

Article Abstract:

Hewlett Packard Co may not be able to prove the libel it accuses the Computer Aid Co of in a press release made by Computer Aid when filing a software piracy suit against Hewlett Packard. Experts do not want attorneys to have to worry about statements made on behalf of a client as long as they resemble the allegations made in court and are also concerned about the potential lawyer-client conflict set up by the claim.
