Ethical decision making in multinational organizations: a culture-based model

Article Abstract:

The relationship between national culture and ethical decision making was analyzed. In the process of the study, a culture-based model of ethical decision making in organizations was derived from established theories of ethics and moral development. The integration of cultural values into ethical decision making was part of the creation of the model. An evaluation of the model found that its focus on the cultural dimension of individualism/collectivism and one established theory of ethical decision making offers further opportunities for conceptual research.

Article Abstract:

The ethical decision making of employees was studied by determining how the perceived organizational environment is related to their decisions. A sample size of 245 full-time employees was given self-administered questionnaires. The results showed that there is a significant relation between the perceived organizational environment and the ethical decisions of respondents. In addition, formal or written policies played an important role in employees' ethical decisions.
