Executive compensation: today's techniques

Article Abstract:

Companies have been using several techniques to compensate executives in the late 1990s. Contributory techniques include stock options, employee stock purchases, 401(k)s, supplemental employee retirement plans, and deferred plans. Non-contributory plans include restricted stocks, stock bonuses, performance awards, and stock appreciation rights.

Equity based compensation plan for directors

Article Abstract:

Several alternatives of equity based compensation exist for companies to use for its non-employee or outside directors. Stock options, restricted stock plans, stock grant programs, and stock unit programs are some of these alternatives. Tax, registration, and disclosure requirements associated with these types of compensation are discussed.

Background information on typical compensation components

Article Abstract:

There are various ways to compose executive compensation packages, with different balances of base salaries, benefit programs, and perquisites. Long-term incentive plans include stock options, stock appreciation rights, restricted and phantom stock, and performance shares. Various aspects of these plans are discussed.
