Firm libraries are not endangered species

Article Abstract:

The electronic revolution does not pose a danger to law firm libraries as, in fact, law firm librarians can act as a conduit to this revolution. Librarians are the employees most knowledgeable about electronic legal research and can help attorneys derive the most from its benefits. The devotion of some attorneys to the printed word and the absence, as yet, of user-friendly and cost-effective electronic research in some areas are the reason for the persistence of paper.

Extranets merge virtues of Internet and Intranets; multi-organization, restricted-access, Web based networks are ideal for case management

Article Abstract:

Extranets are being touted as the next major wave of business use of Internet technology and are multiple-organization, restricted networks based on the World-Wide Web. They use existing infrastructure and off-the-shelf software, have only modest access costs and offer more communication and cooperation than was practical before. Extranets enable law firms to share work product easily and can also have groupware features, such as collaborative document drafting.
