Word v. WordPerfect

Article Abstract:

The ease-of-use and flexibility found in Corel's WordPerfect 7.0 make it a better word processing program for the legal profession than Microsoft's Word 7.0. While both programs let users create customized templates, WordPerfect permits the creation of automated templates that prompt users to enter certain information, and it lets users connect macros to specific trigger events. WordPerfect also gains a slight edge because its contains a macro that finds and expands all abbreviations, while Word requires users to manually position the cursor on the abbreviated words. WordPerfect's flexibility shines in its automatic paragraph numbering, which lets users position numbers at any level at any place in the text. In contrast, the Word numbering scheme forces users to employ a predefined format. WordPerfect offers better table management and file finding features, but Word excels in allowing users to format styles and in its revisions and redlining features.

Info Accelerator gets it right

Article Abstract:

Baseline Data Systems' $99.95 Info Accelerator (IA) 4.0 combines a calendar system and contact management in a powerful, well designed application. The software integrates tightly with users' word processing and other applications, allowing users to add information from the IA Phone Book to those applications. The Phone Book database forms the core of the product, and users can maintain as many as 32,000 entries. Each entry holds up to 10 telephone numbers, 10 E-mail address, 10 postal addresses, 10 telephone numbers and 100 customizable fields, but each can only be described in 14 characters. The product's Notes field is better, allowing users to store as many as 32,000 characters. The strong search engine allows users to identify and search on Search Keys, or keywords. The calendar is particularly easy to understand and use. One weakness is the calendar's apparent inability to schedule events that last longer than one day.
