Groupware installations are cooperative ventures

Article Abstract:

Groupware offers great promise to law firms seeking to improve processes, but extensive planning, close work with the Information Service provider, and a significant time commitment are required. Groupware is a class of data base software accessible to multiple users in one or many locations. Law firms use it for information storage, discussions, and workflow automation. Initial planning, scope, design issues, security, and initial and final training are considered. Finally, the system must be used and maintained to be a success.

Software provides support services on command

Article Abstract:

Voice-recognition software is rapidly becoming useful and cost-effective for the average lawyer or small firm thanks to technical improvements, falling prices, and more support among other software and service providers. Among the present capabilities are text entry, editing, printing or e-mailing; legal research via CD-ROM, Lexis, and Westlaw; Internet use; telephone calling; and even manipulating lights or starting the coffee machine. DragonDictate, Voice for Windows, and LawTALK are among the leading packages.
