He studies hard and shreds the experts

Article Abstract:

Malcolm E. Wheeler is a defense specialist considered one of the best US trial lawyers and has achieved some of his biggest wins for Ford but also represents other automobile manufacturers in products liability cases and has only lost one products liability verdict in his career, which was later reversed. He defends other Fortune 500 companies in antitrust, contracts, and intellectual property litigation. Wheeler first achieved national attention with his successful 1980 win for Ford in the criminal case arising from the Pinto's manufacture.

Tort wars cost plenty

Article Abstract:

Tort reform is a costly enterprise from both sides. For example, in Pennsylvania in a major battle over products liability legislation, trial lawyers gave $1.2 million to legislators, but that figure is small compared with the amount spent by private industry supporting products liability legislation. A similar battle was fought in Michigan over no-fault medical coverage.

Girding for change

Article Abstract:

Regulatory enforcement in likely to be more stringent during the Clinton presidency, and businesses would be well advised to review their compliance practices during the transition. The environmental and industrial safety areas are likely to see most of the increased enforcement. EEOC policy will probably become more stringent as well.
