Help for impaired lawyers; Commission hopes ABA-sanctioned model will spur nationwide aid programs

Article Abstract:

The ABA Commission on Impaired Attorneys is trying for a nationwide network of lawyer assistance programs which will identify impaired lawyers before they harm clients or themselves. The model devised by the commission feels that volunteers are not enough and that they should work with a paid staff member. The model also advises states to grant immunity to volunteer attorneys without which they would have a duty to reveal information about lawyers' actions that could harm clients.
