How will provocative application fare in PTO?

Article Abstract:

Techniques for various processes involving DNA such as splicing or cloning it or transforming cells with DNA have brought important health benefits to the public. Chimeras, animals formed from genetically heterogeneous sets of cells, have been known to science for more than ten years. Patents for human-animal chimeras, however, should proceed with the usual examination by the PTO, and as such patent claims would seem to have no legitimate commercial purpose, they should probably not be issued according to 35 USC 101. Adjudicating the patentability of such creatures on the basis of morality may not be appropriate.

A provocative lawyer who challenged rules

Article Abstract:

William M. Kunstler performed enormous good for those he helped when they had nowhere else to turn, but he was also perhaps the most-hated lawyer in the country until his recent death. While often provocative or obnoxious, he remained in control of himself and frequently of the trial process, to his foes' consternation. He was accused of doing more harm than good for some clients, but even then he usually won. The most famous of his many cases in 30 years of practice are discussed.
