Humanities and Business: Educational Reform for Corporate Success

Article Abstract:

The business community is beginning to recognize the value of employing liberal arts majors. Humanities majors bring skills necessary and important to business. The University of Maryland at College Park is conducting a joint venture between corporate executives and humanists. The cooperative venture's purpose is to develop a program which incorporates liberal arts and business education. A longitudinal study by American Telephone and Telegraph, (AT&T), revealed social science majors and humanists to be the most successful groups in business.

Corporate welfare fueled by political contributions

Article Abstract:

The federal government spends millions of dollars each year on ethanol subsidies to prop up the marginal alcohol fuels industries. The politically well-connected Archer Daniels Midland Corp has become the largest corporate welfare recipient, primarily because of ethanol subsidies. Ethanol has been portrayed as a savior for corn farmers and the environment while acting as a bulwark against overdependence on foreign oil. However, its environmental impact is overstated and misleading, and it remains an expensive, artificially sustained industry.
