In a new lawsuit, MSL alleges accreditation bid was targeted

Article Abstract:

The Massachusetts School of Law (MSL) filed a new lawsuit on Sept 25 against the American Bar Assn, the Assn of American Law Schools, the New England School of Law (NESL), and individuals, claiming they conspired to keep MSL from winning accreditation by the ABA. While the suit echoes many charges levied in a complaint that helped create a federal antitrust suit, it adds others as well. Attached to the lawsuit are various letters between the chairman of NESL's board of trustees and James White, a consultant to the ABA on legal education.

Settlement will mean changes in ABA's accreditation process

Article Abstract:

The U.S. Dept of Justice announced on June 27, 1995, both a suit against the American Bar Assn and a consent decree modifying how the ABA accredits law schools. The suit, which alleged antitrust violations, was sparked by a complaint from the Massachusetts School of Law, recently denied accreditation. Of special concern were ABA requirements for faculty salaries and the dominant role played by academics in accreditation. ABA officials say the changes mandated were already in process, but critics of the ABA call the decree a victory.

S.F. proposal for library sharing raises issues on accreditation

Article Abstract:

The San Francisco Department of City Planning discovered during a study of local government office space use that 16 of the city's law libraries are located very close to each other, with some overlap in their collections. Observations on the cost-effectiveness of law library consolidation run into trouble when ABA accreditation standards are brought into the mix. These standards require each law school library to meet certain standards. Some observers feel the ABA's standards for law school libraries need to be modernized.
