In the limelight's glare; military lawyers plan counterattack in response to increased media coverage

Article Abstract:

The military has begun to strike back at media critics who have appeared in the wake of high-profile case such as Kelly Flinn's and the gays in the military issue. The services traditionally refrained from answering military justice questions from the press, but have begun to relax standards to allow judge advocates general to speak publicly on various issues and correct erroneous information. Paperback lawyer; self-help law publisher fears Texas UPL probe could ride roughshod over the First Amendment

Article Abstract:

Nolo Press, a self-helf law publisher, says it won't be intimidated by a Texas Supreme Court Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee complaint. Nolo is the largest US supplier of do-it-yourself law materials, marketing 130 titles, about 80 in Texas, most detailing how to create legal documents such as wills and living trusts. Other state courts have usually held that sales of legal forms did not constitute unauthorized practice unless the seller personally advised the buyer on a specific problem.

Sign on the dotted screen: ABA takes lead in developing guidelines for electronic document verification

Article Abstract:

Digital signatures guidelines issued by the ABA are an attempt to provide guidance in disputes over online transactions, given the dearth of law in this area. The need for a certification authority, similar to a notary, is highlighted in the guidelines. Digital signatures are needed to authenticate documents involved in Internet business in a manner similar to traditional contractual signatures.
