International sports law: a replay of characteristics and trends

Article Abstract:

International sports law has become a developing area of dispute resolution in recent decades. International sports organizations, such as the Olympic Movement, have become more established and gained authority. These organizations turn to methods of cooperation and mediation to resolve disputes that arise from international sporting events, such as athlete eligibility, commercialization, substance abuse and fan violence. The dispute over the America's Cup race provides an example of why alternatives to resolving disputes in court are preferred by the international sports organizations.
