Juggling paper with Acrobat

Article Abstract:

Adobe Systems' $200 Adobe Acrobat 3.0 provides lawyers with a viable alternative for distributing imaged or binary documents to many users. Adobe's portable document format also integrates portable documents with several OSs. The application converts scanned documents into the PDF format which can be distributed via Adobe's free readers programs. Acrobat 3.0 features separate Windows, Unix and Macintosh CD versions of these reader programs. Adobe also provides comprehensive tools for adding, extracting and reordering pages in both the scanning and PDF document creation options. Adobe's basic Acrobat application, however, is not equip to manage large document volumes simultaneously. The company addresses this batch processing with its Acrobat Capture add-on package. Acrobat 3.0 is a suitable choice for developing litigation document files employing fields and indices. The program's difficulties in converting PDF back to text files are its most serious limitations.
