Kidcare: socialized medicine through government schools

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration's Kidcare program allows for a wider coverage of children to receive school-based health care services under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. Medicaid will provide 80% of children in public schools under the age of 21 Early, Periodic, Screening, Diagnosis and Treatment. The program, which will provide states with increased federal funding, is being criticized by some sectors who feel that it will end up similar to federal education programs which have failed to deliver quality service.

Murder by Medicare: the demise of solo and small group medical practices

Article Abstract:

The decline in the number of physicians in solo and small group practices may be attributed to Medicare and the regulatory burdens imposed on them by the government. The physicians often contend with rising costs for services and equipment along with Medicare reimbursement limits. In an attempt to solve the problem, Congress is considering several amendments to curb the destructive effects of current Medicare policies and to prevent the demise of solo and small-group practices.

Medicare limits senior liberty

Article Abstract:

A new Medicare regulation included in the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 faces criticism from observers. The new regulation, which is divided into Part A, the part that pays for hospital care, and Part B, the part that pays for doctor visits, allegedly restricts senior citizens' choice of seeking and paying private physicians' services. But once the new Medicare law takes effect in 1998, seniors have no other choice but to enroll in Part B.
