Labor racketeering: The Mafia and the unions

Article Abstract:

A study emphasizes the need for taking labor racketeering as an important form of systematic criminality that festers in one of society's key sociopolitical institutions. It documents and analyzes the US federal government's remedial efforts to purge organized crime from the four most corrupted international unions, among them the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA).

Cosa Nostra: the final chapter?

Article Abstract:

Crime prevention techniques which may work to eradicate the remainder of the Mafia are discussed. The Mafia's focus is on infiltration and domination of legitimate businesses over sustained periods, in addition to involvement in various illicit markets. Quick response to organized crime syndicates is needed, and electronic surveillance is a serious impediment to the operation of organized crime.

Youth justice in Germany

The governing premise in GermanyEs youth justice policies is the desirability of directing responses to crimes by children, youth and young adults toward sanctions that foster pro-social development. The country has the lowest youth incarceration rate in Europe, with federal regimes stressing procedural protections, stronger victimsE rights, and the use of mediation and restitution.
