Law school for nonlawyers is expanding nationwide; classes cover family law, auto insurance, consumer rights and workers' comp

Article Abstract:

San Diego, CA's Neighborhood Law School offers legal training for the rank-and-file public who would probably not get such training otherwise, and reception for the initial program was so enthusiastic that it is going national. Similar National Bar Association-backed programs have been appearing in cities across the US. Randy K. Jones, who created the first program, would also like the classes broadcast on cable television. Jones cautions that the program comes with a disclaimer that graduates cannot practice law.

Succession scramble in Arkansas

Article Abstract:

Bill Clinton's victory in the 1992 presidential election raises the question of who should succeed him as governor of Arkansas. Article Six and Amendments Six and 29 of the Arkansas Constitution are the pastiche pertaining to this question, and an Arkansas judge decided in favor of Amendment Six, meaning that Lieutenant Governor Jim Guy Tucker will be Clinton's successor until the next election.

Arkansas expands 'increased risk;' workers' comp ordered for employee injured at on-site mobile home

Article Abstract:

The Arkansas Supreme Court has decided in Deffenbaugh Industries v Angus that requiring an employee to live on-site exposed him to increased risk and thus made him eligible for workers' compensation when his on-site trailer was hit by a tornado. The decision affirmed a ruling by the Arkansas Workers' Compensation Commission.
