Lawyers can revive their profession's image by rededicating themselves to their basic mission

Article Abstract:

Attorneys today must recommit themselves to their basic mission, to work towards a strong, more responsive profession, to defend the Constitution and to protect and strengthen the judicial system. Such a recommitment will do much towards overcoming public cynicism with justice and the profession. Lawyers have a special duty to protect the judicial system and must also stand up to those who would attack judges who do not deserve it and who would blame judges for all social problems. This generation of lawyers must preserve for future generations the constitutional protections we enjoy.

These dead lawyers aren't part of a joke

Article Abstract:

The July 1991 shooting deaths of lawyers at the San Francisco law firm of Pettit and Martin by a deranged gunman with a grudge against the profession shows the need to halt the bigotry and stereotyping which fuels lawyer-bashing and also the need for gun control. The California legal community needs to improve the judicial system to lessen the frustration of all involved and let members of the community know when their generalizations are based on unfair stereotypes.
