Lawyers, programmers interface

Article Abstract:

The burgeoning and undefined realm of computer law was explored by participants at the Feb 29, 1992 Computer Law Symposium at the University of California Hastings College of Law. Software patents were the chief issue, as some programmers feel hindered by them, while many attorneys and large computer companies tout their validity. Other topics included insurance coverage for patent infringement suit costs and licensing disputes between the computer and entertainment industries over multimedia technology.

Lawyer-inventor takes aim against disk drive makers

Article Abstract:

Harry E. Aine, holder of Patent 32,464 for the technique of over-coating the metal disks used in hard disk drives to resist wear, has filed a petition with the International Trade Commission (ITC) asking that all disks infringing his patent be denied entry into the US. He alleges that most disk drive manufacturers are guilty, which has produced skepticism in the computer community.
