Local area networks require good management

Article Abstract:

Proper maintenance and management of a local area network (LAN) are essential in order to obtain an optimal return on the firm's investment. Every LAN should have a network manager responsible for it. Most LANs come with a network management system which enables managers to perform their duties from a central location. An automatic backup system is crucial and the copies should be kept in a central location. Keeping a complete inventory of computer equipment is an important managerial duty, as is having procedures in place for users to follow in case of emergencies.

Consultants can facilitate automation projects: hiring an independent adviser can be a wise move when firms are upgrading office systems

Article Abstract:

Technology consultants can be good investments for firms thinking about an automation project. Such consultants are aware of the latest technology and can advise what would meet the firm's needs best, can manage the firm's relationship with vendors and can help ensure that the project is done on time and within budget. Possible sources of consultants are word of mouth, professional conferences, articles in trade publications and recommendations from vendors.
